Rawalpindi Granddaughter Arrested for Grandmother Murder

RAWALPINDI: Police have solved the murder of a 75-year-old woman in the Dhok Charagh Din area within the limits of Civil Lines police station, arresting her granddaughter and the latter’s husband for allegedly killing her for money and selling her jewellery.

Discovery of the Crime

According to police, in the last week of June, Mohammad Shehzad informed Civil Lines police that he lived with his 75-year-old mother, Zahra Khatoon, in Dhok Charagh Din. When he returned home, he found her dead and initially believed she had died a natural death. However, while preparing the body for burial, family members noticed injury marks on her body, marks around her neck and a wound on the back of her head, leading them to suspect that she had been murdered.

Investigation and Arrests

Police launched an investigation and arrested the victim's granddaughter and her husband. During interrogation, the couple confessed to killing Zahra Khatoon and stealing her jewellery, which they later sold. The motive was financial gain.

Legal Proceedings

The suspects have been booked under murder charges and are in police custody. Further investigation is underway to recover the stolen jewellery and determine the exact details of the crime.
