The Sui Southern Gas Company's Kotri Zone has carried out a significant operation targeting gas theft in various areas of Kotri Site and Khuda Ki Basti, uncovering theft amounting to Rs10 million per month. During the raid, SSGC teams disconnected approximately 2,000 illegal connections and seized thousands of meters of rubber gas pipes and clips.
Details of the Operation
Officials reported that a gang involved in gas theft had damaged 4-inch and 6-inch main pipelines by installing clips to siphon gas, which was then sold illegally. The operation was conducted in illegal residential colonies in Kotri, where many households were found to be using unauthorized connections.
Impact of Gas Theft
Senior General Manager Sindh-Balochistan Madni Siddiqui stated, "We have caught 2,000 households with illegal gas connections. Gas theft was causing a loss of Rs 10 million per month." He added that lenient laws against domestic consumers were encouraging theft. The seized equipment included thousands of meters of rubber pipes and clips used for illegal siphoning.
Ongoing Efforts
The SSGC continues to conduct operations to curb gas theft, which not only causes financial losses but also disrupts supply to legitimate consumers. The company urges the public to report any suspicious activity to help combat this issue.
