Two Upgraded Schools Inaugurated in Tando Muhammad Khan

Two newly upgraded Government Elementary Schools, located in Qabool Pur and Hyder Shah in District Tando Muhammad Khan, were formally inaugurated today, marking another milestone in the Government of Sindh’s efforts to expand access to quality education across the province. The inauguration ceremonies were held under the World Bank-funded Sindh Early Learning Enhancement through Classroom Transformation (SELECT) Project, implemented by the School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, through the Reform Support Unit (RSU).

Inauguration Ceremony Led by MNA Syed Naveed Qamar

The inauguration was led by Syed Naveed Qamar, Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan (MNA), who formally opened the schools for students and the surrounding communities. The events were attended by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Dharmoon Bhawani (PAS), the District Education Officer (DEO), along with teachers, and a large gathering of community members, including both men and women, reflecting the strong local support for the initiative.

During the visit, Syed Naveed Qamar toured the school premises, where Ms. Erum Rind briefed him on the facilities available at the school, including the classrooms, washrooms, boundary wall, and other infrastructure improvements carried out under the SELECT Programme.

Address by Syed Naveed Qamar

In his address, Syed Naveed Qamar congratulated the communities on the new schools, stating that it is now the responsibility of parents to send their children to school. He remarked that these attractive, well-built schools would draw children in, and stressed the need to replicate such models across the province. He emphasized that communities must be motivated to send their children to school, noting that learning outcomes should remain the central objective, and expressed confidence that the SELECT Programme will achieve this goal. He urged parents to enroll their children and make full use of the elementary school facility, describing the schools as a gift from the Government of Sindh, and once again congratulated the communities on this achievement.

Overview of SELECT Intervention by Ms. Erum Rind

Representing the Programme Management and Implementation Unit (PMIU) – SELECT, Ms. Erum Rind was a key participant in the ceremonies. During the events, she presented an overview of the SELECT intervention being implemented in District Tando Muhammad Khan, highlighting its scope and objectives for improving educational infrastructure and outcomes in the region.

Speaking at the ceremonies, Ms. Rind emphasized that the SELECT Programme represents a significant investment by the Government of Sindh, supported by the World Bank, aimed at securing a better future for children across the province. She specifically underscored the Programme’s commitment to promoting quality education, with a particular focus on girls’ education, noting that educating girls strengthens families and builds stronger, more resilient communities.

Infrastructure Improvements and Community Commitment

The newly inaugurated schools feature a range of improvements designed to create a safe and conducive learning environment, including well-ventilated and child-friendly classrooms, clean and functional washrooms, a safe boundary wall, sustainable energy solutions, and green surroundings — all aimed at supporting better retention and learning outcomes for every child.

Officials reiterated their commitment to working together with communities, teachers, and stakeholders to ensure that every child, especially girls, has access to safe schools and quality education, today and in the future.
