A municipal official was caught red-handed accepting a bribe during an anti-corruption raid in Bahawalnagar district on Friday. The operation was part of ongoing efforts by the Bahawalnagar anti-corruption department to identify and remove corrupt officials from government departments.

Details of the Raid

According to official sources, Circle Officer Anti-Corruption Bahawalnagar Malik Muhammad Akram Zaki, acting on the request of citizen Nisar Ahmed, conducted the raid under the supervision of Judicial Magistrate First Class Rashid Hussain. The accused, Kafeel Shahzad, an official of Haroonabad Municipality, was arrested while accepting a bribe. During the operation, Rs 40,000 in marked currency was recovered from his possession.

Legal Action and Statement

Circle Officer Anti-Corruption Malik Muhammad Akram Zaki confirmed that case number 19/26 has been registered against the accused at the Anti-Corruption Establishment Bahawalnagar. He stated, "On the orders of the Director Anti-Corruption Bahawalpur, indiscriminate action will continue against elements involved in bribery and corruption. Those who violate the law will be brought to justice."
