Pakistan Illegal Migration Down 47%, Minister Says

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced on Saturday that illegal migration from Pakistan has decreased by 47 percent compared to previous years, attributing the decline to the effective strategy of the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Global Alliance Meeting in Vienna

Speaking at the high-level meeting of the ‘Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling’ in Vienna, Austria, Chaudhry stated that Pakistan’s successful strategy against illegal migration has become a model for the international community. “Modern technology, intelligence sharing and coordinated strategy is the effective solution to counter human smuggling,” he was quoted as saying by the Ministry of Interior in a statement.

Global Challenge Requires Coordinated Response

The minister emphasized that illegal migration is not merely a cross-border issue but a global challenge requiring a coordinated international response. He urged the need to enhance opportunities for legal migration, stressing that promoting safe, orderly, and legal migration is essential for effectively addressing illegal migration.

FIA Praised for Efforts

Participants of the Global Alliance meeting praised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for its efforts in combating illegal migration, according to the interior ministry. The European Union also commended Pakistan’s effective measures in this regard.

In a related development, a grant of Rs570 million was approved for the restoration of small industrial estate infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement) in Hyderabad recorded strong operational performance.
