Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman is scheduled to present the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the Punjab Assembly on Monday. According to sources within the Finance Ministry, the budget estimates and key proposals have been finalized ahead of the presentation.

Cabinet Meeting Before Budget

Sources confirmed that a meeting of the provincial cabinet will convene at 11:00 AM on June 16, prior to the assembly session, to formally approve the budget recommendations. Officials indicated that the upcoming budget places special emphasis on the social sector, with welfare and public service initiatives expected to receive significant attention.

No New Taxes Proposed

According to ministry sources, no new taxes have been proposed in the provincial budget. The budget also recommends an increase in salaries and pensions, aligning with the relief measures announced by the federal government.

Federal Salary and Pension Hikes

Earlier, the federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27 proposed a 7 percent increase in salaries for government employees and a 7 percent rise in pensions for retired employees. The Punjab budget is expected to follow suit, ensuring consistency across federal and provincial employee benefits.
