Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kiyani chaired a follow-up review meeting on Friday and directed that the over 100-kilometer Lillah-Jhelum Dual Carriageway project be completed by December this year. The meeting reviewed progress on decisions taken during last week's session regarding the highway's construction.
Project Progress and Coordination
Participants discussed the relocation of electricity poles, installation of utility infrastructure, and arrangements for the expansion of railway crossings along the route. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministries of Energy and Railways, Jhelum district administration, Frontier Works Organization (FWO), C&W Department, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Talib Mehdi, and other relevant departments.
Technical Works Finalized
Homegrown Poultry Solution officials briefed the meeting on the expansion of railway crossings, particularly at Pind Dadan Khan and Harnpur, and the relocation of high-voltage electricity transmission lines. The process for these works was finalized to avoid delays in project execution.
Minister's Directive
Addressing participants, Mr. Kiyani stressed the need for close coordination among all departments to remove technical bottlenecks and ensure timely completion. He said the government was committed to providing safe and quality traveling facilities to the public. He expressed confidence that the Lillah-Jhelum Dual Carriageway would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, providing improved transport facilities to hundreds of thousands of residents of the region.
Background and Related Initiatives
It may be recalled that during a meeting held in Jhelum last week, the minister had also reviewed progress on the Lillah-Jhelum Road project, Jhelum Model Bazaar, the district's first co-working space and job centre, and the proposed Jhelum Heritage and Culture Board.
