LAHORE: Punjab is facing the threat of a severe heatwave during the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to issue alerts and safety guidelines for citizens, livestock handlers, traders, and district administrations.
Temperature Forecast
According to PDMA Punjab, temperatures in most districts of the province are expected to remain 4 to 7°C above normal during the Eid holidays. In Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and other districts, temperatures may reach 42°C. Southern Punjab districts, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, and Jhang, may experience extreme heat, with mercury possibly rising to 50°C.
Nighttime Heat
The PDMA warned that the intensity of the heatwave may continue even at night, providing little relief to residents.
Safety Guidelines
DG Umar Javed urged the public to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel or exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 10am and 5pm. He emphasized that citizens should drink plenty of water and fluids to protect themselves from heat-related illness.
Precautions
- Wear light-colored, loose cotton clothes
- Use hats or umbrellas when going outside
- Children, elderly, sick individuals, and heart patients should stay indoors during extreme heat
