South Air Gets CAA License for Domestic Flights in Pakistan

The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to South Air, a new private airline, allowing it to begin commercial operations in the country. The certificate was signed by CAA Director General Nadir Shafi Dar, and the airline is expected to start flights within the next few days, as reported by ARY News.

Regulatory Support and Certification Process

Aviation officials confirmed that the Ministry of Defence and the CAA provided full support throughout the certification process to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. CAA Director General Nadir Shafi Dar reaffirmed the authority's commitment to promoting the growth of Pakistan's aviation industry by facilitating new operators while maintaining safety and operational standards.

Test Flights and Operational Plans

As part of the certification, South Air successfully conducted test flights to New Gwadar International Airport and Sukkur Airport, which were monitored and evaluated by CAA inspectors. The airline plans to operate flights to airports across Pakistan, expanding domestic connectivity.

Expanding Aviation Sector

The launch of South Air comes amid ongoing expansion in Pakistan's aviation sector. Last year, Saudi Arabia's low-cost carrier Flyadeal launched operations to Pakistan after receiving CAA approval. Flyadeal's inaugural flight, F3 166, arrived at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi with a traditional water salute. The airline currently operates flights between Riyadh and Karachi, as well as services connecting Karachi with Riyadh and Jeddah, offering more direct travel options between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
