The federal government on Friday slashed petrol price by Rs4 per litre for the fourth consecutive week, while diesel price remains unchanged. The government revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products for the next week starting from June 6, 2026, according to a press release from the Petroleum Division.
Following the decrease, petrol will slide to Rs377.78 per litre from the existing Rs381.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will stay at Rs380.78 per litre. The new prices will be effective from Saturday until further revision.
Petrol is mostly used in private transport, small vehicles, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers, while high-speed diesel is mainly used in the heavy transport sector.
Recent Price Trends
For the week ended June 5, the government had slashed petrol and diesel prices by Rs22 per litre each. In the week before May 29, petrol was cut by Rs6 per litre and diesel by Rs6.8 per litre. For the week ended May 22, both fuels were reduced by Rs5 per litre each.
However, for the week ended May 15, the government raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs14.92 and Rs15 per litre, respectively. On March 6, a historic increase of Rs55 per litre was announced, pushing petrol to Rs321.17 per litre and diesel to Rs335.86 per litre.
On April 2, prices saw a massive hike of Rs137.23 per litre for petrol and Rs184.49 per litre for diesel, bringing petrol to Rs458.5 and diesel to Rs520.35. However, a day later, the government slashed the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs80 per litre, reducing it to Rs378 per litre.
On April 10, diesel was reduced by Rs134.81 per litre and petrol by Rs11.83 per litre. On April 24, both fuels were increased by Rs26.77 per litre each. On April 30, petrol rose by Rs6.51 per litre and diesel by Rs19.39 per litre.
