Security has been placed on high alert across Punjab for Christian worship services and prayer gatherings being held at churches in various parts of the province, officials said on Sunday.
IGP Issues Directives for Enhanced Security
According to police officials, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem has issued directives to all Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs), and senior officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements at churches and other sensitive locations. The IGP directed supervisory officers to personally visit churches to review security arrangements on the ground.
He also ordered the deployment of snipers and additional police personnel at sensitive churches to deal with any untoward situation. Officials said Dolphin Squad, Police Response Units (PRU), and Elite Force teams have been instructed to conduct continuous patrolling around churches and Christian localities.
Heightened Vigilance and Patrolling
The IGP further directed that all deployed personnel remain on high alert and keep strict vigilance over suspicious individuals and activities. He also ordered enhanced checking at entry and exit points of churches and tightening of security cordons in and around Christian localities.
Stressing interfaith harmony, the IGP urged clerics, members of the Christian community, peace committee representatives, and local leaders to play their role in maintaining religious tolerance and ensuring peaceful conduct of worship services.
