City Police Officer Tanveer Hussain on Tuesday announced a major administrative overhaul of police stations across Faisalabad district, dividing them into six specialised units to improve efficiency, transparency, and alignment with modern policing requirements. The reforms aim to streamline operations and enhance public safety.
Six Units with Distinct Responsibilities
Under the new system, each police station will house six units: Investigation, Patrolling, Special Investigation (SSIOU), Administration, Security, and Crime Control. Overall supervision of all units will be carried out by the concerned Divisional Superintendents of Police (SPs).
The Investigation Unit has been separated from the Operations Wing. It will focus exclusively on case investigation, evidence collection, suspect arrests, and completion of legal proceedings. This separation is intended to reduce workload conflicts and improve case outcomes.
Patrolling and Special Investigation Units
A Patrolling Unit will be established at every police station to prevent crime and ensure public safety. The unit will operate in two shifts, monitoring criminal activities in its respective area. This proactive approach aims to deter offenders and build community trust.
The Special Investigation Unit (SSIOU) will be activated to handle serious crimes against women and children, including rape, abuse, kidnapping, and other sensitive matters. Instructions have been issued to provide the unit with separate offices, vehicles, and specialised staff to ensure sensitive cases are handled with care and expertise.
Administration, Security, and Crime Control
The Administration Unit will manage official affairs of police stations, record management, and front desk operations, improving administrative efficiency. The Security Unit will be responsible for maintaining law and order, monitoring sensitive locations, and ensuring security measures are in place.
The Crime Control Unit will play a key role in major crime cases, emergency situations, raids, and special operations. It will work under the direct supervision of the Station House Officer (SHO), enabling swift and coordinated responses to serious incidents.
According to a police spokesperson, these reforms are part of a broader effort to modernise policing in Faisalabad. The changes are expected to enhance accountability, reduce response times, and improve service delivery to citizens. No timeline for full implementation was provided, but directives have been issued to all relevant officers to begin restructuring immediately.
