Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced its first digital driving licence service, enabling motorists to store a legally valid version of their licence on their smartphones. Chief Traffic Officer Peshawar Dr Zahid Ullah confirmed that the service is accessible through the Rabta mobile application. Users can generate their digital driving licence within seconds by entering their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number and driving licence details.
Digital Licence Accepted at Traffic Checks
Dr Zahid Ullah stated that drivers will no longer need to carry a physical licence, as the digital version on their mobile phones will be recognised during traffic checks. This initiative is part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Traffic Police's digital transformation strategy aimed at delivering faster, more accessible and citizen-friendly public services.
Online Verification Facility Already in Place
Earlier, the Peshawar Traffic Police had introduced an online driving licence verification facility to assist people travelling abroad with visa-related requirements. Dr Zahid Ullah noted that adopting digital technology would reduce paperwork, minimise unnecessary visits to government offices and save citizens time. He added that more public services would gradually be shifted online to improve transparency and service delivery.
