Project Launch and Objectives
The Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra), in collaboration with the German Embassy, has initiated a landmark conservation project to safeguard Pakistan's artistic heritage. The Museum Collection Conservation and Re-framing Project at the Alhamra Museum of Modern Arts aims to upgrade preservation standards by replacing conventional frames with museum-grade conservation framing. This will protect valuable artworks from environmental damage, including humidity, dust, light exposure, and physical deterioration.
Survey and Prioritization
A comprehensive survey of the museum's collection identified 52 artworks requiring conservation. Among these, 19 historically significant masterpieces were classified as high priority. Detailed condition assessments and technical documentation have been completed to guide restoration and long-term preservation efforts.
Implementation and Procurement
Following a competitive procurement process under Punjab Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, a contractor was selected to undertake the project. The initiative is part of the museum's ongoing renovation and underscores a commitment to preserving cultural assets for future generations.
