Lahore Police Finalises Muharram Security Plan, Emphasises Peace

Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana has issued directives to police officers to guarantee comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, underscoring that the preservation of peace and religious harmony will be a top priority.

Security Review Meeting

Chairing a progress review session at the Capital City Police Headquarters, the CCPO examined the security blueprint for Muharram processions, majalis, and associated preparations throughout the provincial capital. Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran briefed attendees on procession routes, majalis, security deployments, and the enforcement of surety bond requirements.

Directives for Implementation

During the meeting, the CCPO instructed that the Muharram security plan be finalised in line with government Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He stressed the need for close collaboration with peace committee members, procession organisers, custodians, license holders, and other stakeholders to guarantee the effective execution of security measures. He also mandated strict enforcement of surety bonds obtained from building owners along procession routes and called for heightened surveillance of sensitive locations.

Community Liaison and Operations

Mr. Kamyana ordered police officers to maintain communication with community representatives and religious organisers throughout Muharram. He further directed the intensification of search, sweep, and combing operations to curb activities of anti-social and unlawful elements ahead of the holy month.

Performance Review of Divisions

Later, the CCPO chaired a separate performance review meeting for the Iqbal Town and Saddar Divisions, where the overall law and order situation, crime control measures, police performance, and Muharram preparedness were assessed. The CCPO made it clear that the arrest of innocent citizens would not be tolerated under any circumstances and warned of strict disciplinary action against officers found involved in wrongful arrests. He reiterated that timely delivery of justice and prompt resolution of public complaints remain among the Lahore Police’s top priorities.

Anti-Narcotics Operations

Highlighting the police’s ongoing operations against narcotics, he described the eradication of drug trafficking and abuse as one of the force’s foremost responsibilities and directed officers to further accelerate operations against the sale and distribution of ice, heroin, and other narcotics. He also ordered the early arrest of proclaimed offenders, timely submission of supplementary challans in courts, and effective prosecution of criminal cases.

The meetings were attended by DIG (Admin) Imran Kishwar, DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, CTO Abdul Raheem Shirazi, SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed, SSP (Operations) Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem, SP Security, SP Dolphin, SP Headquarters, divisional SPs, and other senior police officers.
