Khyber Medical University (KMU) in Peshawar has officially inaugurated its Mandatory Weekly Co-Curricular Activities for the Academic Year 2025-2026 with a powerful focus on building bridges between different religious communities.
Launching Interfaith Dialogue
The inaugural session, organized under the direct supervision of Secretary Higher Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marked a significant step toward promoting social harmony in the region. The program is being conducted in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (KPCVE), highlighting the government's commitment to addressing societal challenges through education.
The event centered around the theme "Interfaith Harmony and Social Cohesion" and saw participation from top university leadership, including Prof Dr Zia-ul-Haq, Vice Chancellor of KMU, along with heads of various institutes who attended to show their support for this crucial initiative.
Diverse Religious Perspectives
The program featured compelling addresses from representatives of multiple faith traditions, creating a rich tapestry of religious dialogue. Mufti Arshad, a prominent Muslim religious scholar, shared Islamic perspectives on tolerance and coexistence.
Representing the Hindu community, Haron Sarab Diyal, Youth Leader at the Pakistan Council of World Religions, contributed valuable insights. Meanwhile, Augustin Jacob, Member of the DC Peshawar Interfaith Harmony Council, presented Christian viewpoints on building harmonious communities.
All speakers emphasized that a peaceful and resilient society can only be achieved when people from different religious and cultural backgrounds practice mutual respect, acceptance, and goodwill toward one another.
United Vision for Pakistan
The religious leaders and participants collectively affirmed that Pakistan is a shared homeland for all citizens, regardless of their faith. They stressed that followers of every religion have an equal role to play in the nation's progress and prosperity.
The event was organized through the collaborative efforts of the Welfare Societies of the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR) and the IPS Events Society, working under the supervision of Director Academics, Prof Dr Zill-e-Huma.
Participants described the session as highly constructive and meaningful, praising the KMU administration for taking this important step toward fostering interfaith understanding. They expressed strong hope that such positive and enriching activities would continue throughout the academic year and beyond.
