Mehran University Alumni Body Takes Oath, Vows to Tackle Climate Change
New MUET Alumni Body Takes Oath, Focus on Climate

The newly elected body of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Alumni Association officially began its term during a formal oath-taking ceremony held at the university's main auditorium in Jamshoro.

Chief Guest Calls for Alumni Action on Climate Crisis

Chief Secretary Sindh, Engineer Syed Asif Hyder Shah, presided over the event as the chief guest and administered the oath to the incoming association leadership. In his address, Shah expressed a deep personal connection to the institution, stating it felt like home and was his "first love," a sentiment bolstered by his father's own association with MUET.

He praised Mehran University for outpacing other universities in Sindh in terms of progress. Shah then outlined two critical challenges: geopolitical issues, which he stated Pakistan has now overcome, and the pressing threat of climate change. He emphasized the pivotal role engineers must play in devising solutions and urged the alumni community to come forward with guidance and expertise. The Chief Secretary assured the university of his support in addressing its various needs.

University Leadership Highlights Achievements and Future Plans

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Taha Hussain Ali expressed gratitude to Syed Asif Hyder Shah for his contributions to renovating the university auditorium. He noted the significant presence of alumni who traveled from countries like Canada and the USA for the ceremony.

Dr. Ali announced a major achievement: MUET ranked first among public sector universities in Sindh and fourth nationally this year. He credited this success to the relentless hard work of teachers, officers, and students. Looking ahead, the Vice Chancellor shared that the university is actively signing agreements with industries to create opportunities for graduate engineers. He also revealed the establishment of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) lab and efforts to form international alumni chapters.

A Celebration of Legacy and Excellence

The ceremony also served as a platform to honor distinguished alumni. Former Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council, Syed Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani, spoke about the enduring love for one's alma mater, suggesting that contributing to the university is a way to repay a lifelong debt.

The event concluded with awards presented to alumni who have excelled in various engineering fields. The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Secretary of Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch, Pro-Vice Chancellors Dr. Dur Muhammad Pathan and Professor Dr. Anil Kumar, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of Hyderabad and Jamshoro, Registrar Dr. Nasrullah Pirzado, faculty members Dr. Abdul Qadir Rajput, Dr. Rasul Bakhsh Mehr, Dr. Bhawani Shankar Choudhary, and numerous alumni with their families.
