SMIU Hosts Ceremony to Distribute 354 Laptops Under Prime Minister's Scheme
In a significant event aimed at boosting educational resources, Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) distributed 354 laptops to its students as part of the Prime Minister's Laptop Scheme Phase-IV. The ceremony took place on Thursday at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium on the university campus, with Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, the Vice Chancellor of SMIU, presiding over the proceedings.
University Leadership Participates in Distribution
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai was joined by key academic leaders, including deans Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, and Dr. Stephen John, in handing out the laptops to the deserving students. This collaborative effort underscored the university's commitment to supporting its student body through tangible technological aids.
Emphasis on Information Technology and AI in Education
During his address, Dr. Sahrai highlighted the critical importance of information technology, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI), in modern education. He explained that computers are essential tools for students to enrich their minds, enhance their studies, and acquire valuable knowledge. "Empowering young minds in the era of AI is essential for the development of the country," he stated, pointing out that Pakistan's youthful demographic majority positions it uniquely to benefit from such technological advancements.
Dr. Sahrai further elaborated that equipping students with laptops will not only strengthen the economy of Sindh but also contribute to Pakistan and the global community. He urged recipients to use these devices to transform their innovative ideas into actions that promote national development and societal welfare.
Merit-Based Selection and Broader Educational Impact
The Vice Chancellor emphasized that the laptop distribution was a celebration of merit, as all recipients were chosen based on their academic achievements and potential. He noted that laptops can significantly empower students in their study and research endeavors, especially in an era where youth are increasingly tech-savvy. "These laptops shall enhance their learning activities by providing access to digital resources and tools," he added.
Dr. Sahrai also expressed appreciation for the Federal Government and the Higher Education Commission, acknowledging their role in connecting students with the digital age through initiatives like the laptop scheme. This support, he said, is pivotal in preparing the next generation for future challenges and opportunities.
