Naseerabad Police announced on Sunday the arrest of three suspects in connection with a double murder case arising from a land dispute in New Abadi Chakri, Rawalpindi. The incident, which occurred on June 13, resulted in the deaths of a father and son, and injuries to two women who were passers-by.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the complainant, Syed Umar Farooq, reported that he had gone to Chakri Road to attend a funeral along with Syed Shahzada Tabassum, Syed Mustafa Tabassum, and others traveling in separate vehicles. After the funeral prayers, as they were returning, their vehicle was intercepted near Sada Road in New Abadi Chakri by a car approaching from behind. Five armed men, including Raja Altaf, allegedly forced their vehicle to stop and opened indiscriminate fire.
Syed Shahzada Tabassum and Syed Mustafa Tabassum sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to their wounds. The assailants fled the scene while continuing to fire. During the attack, two passer-by women, identified as Zainab and another woman, were also injured due to gunfire, while others managed to save their lives by taking cover behind vehicles.
Land Dispute Background
Police stated that the attack stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between Raja Altaf and Syed Shahzada Tabassum. The conflict over land ownership had been ongoing, leading to the violent confrontation.
Arrests and Investigation
Naseerabad Police apprehended three suspects in connection with the case. The arrests were made following a thorough investigation, and the suspects are currently in police custody. Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the remaining two suspects, including the alleged mastermind, Raja Altaf. A police official confirmed that further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
