The University of Sialkot (USKT) took a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive society by hosting a dedicated event in observance of World Disability Day. The programme underscored the critical need for equal opportunities, enhanced accessibility, and genuine social inclusion for persons with disabilities, bringing together faculty, students, and medical experts.

Leadership and Clinical Insights on Disability Management

The event was spearheaded by Dr. Tanvir Ali Khan Shirwany, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, with supervision from Dr. Raveena Rajput, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. They were ably supported by faculty members Dr. Maryam Afzal and Dr. Shiza Zaidi.

A key highlight was the address by guest speaker Dr. Abdul Hannan, Associate Professor and Head of the Orthopedic Department. He shared valuable clinical perspectives on effective disability management, strongly advocating for a multidisciplinary approach to care that ensures comprehensive support for individuals.

Student Engagement and Calls for Collective Action

Students actively participated by performing a powerful and thought-provoking skit. The performance was designed to highlight the profound importance of empathy and societal acceptance, moving the audience and reinforcing the day's core message.

Adding a dimension of broader social responsibility, the Sundas Foundation used the platform to encourage voluntary blood donations among attendees. In his concluding remarks, Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman emphasized that empowering persons with disabilities is a collective responsibility shared by the entire community. He commended the organizers for their dedicated efforts in putting together a meaningful programme.

Recognizing Contributions and Looking Ahead

The event concluded on a note of appreciation, with the presentation of shields and certificates to honor the contributors. This gathering at USKT served as a vital reminder of the ongoing work required to build a barrier-free environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
