Saudi Arabia made a significant mark at the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference and Expo in the United States, with its largest-ever delegation of 20 universities participating under the umbrella of the Council of Universities' Affairs. The delegation engaged in bilateral meetings with prestigious US institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and Yale University to explore avenues for academic and research collaboration, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
Unprecedented Participation
Hani Choudhry, head of the delegation and deputy secretary-general of the council, emphasized that this year's participation was unprecedented in scale, diversity of workshops, and scope of partnerships. He noted that it reflects a major transformation in Saudi Arabia's higher education sector, highlighting the growing global presence of Saudi universities.
The program featured specialized workshops designed to showcase the diversity and integration of the Saudi academic experience. Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University presented two initiatives aimed at developing future-ready Arabic language programs to enhance global competitiveness, cultural development, and intercultural communication.
Workshops on Innovation and Research
The Saudi Electronic University conducted a workshop titled "Future Higher Education: Artificial Intelligence, Innovation, and Saudi-American Cooperation", focusing on the future of higher education and international collaboration in technology and knowledge. Meanwhile, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences presented a workshop on "Enhancing Excellence in Biomedical Research: Leadership, Innovation, and Global Cooperation", highlighting leadership in research, expanded international collaboration, and innovation in the research system.
The expo, themed "Global by Design", will continue until May 29 in Orlando, Florida. Saudi Arabia's participation underscores its commitment to forging stronger ties with leading global academic institutions and advancing its higher education sector on the world stage.
