At least seven people were martyred and three others sustained injuries when a passenger vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists in the Bannu district on Saturday.
Details of the Incident
According to the District Police Officer (DPO) of Bannu, the injured and the deceased have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and legal formalities. DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi stated that unidentified miscreants had concealed explosive material along the roadside. As soon as the vehicle carrying passengers passed by, a loud explosion occurred, resulting in the immediate death of five individuals on the spot.
Nature of the Attack
The police indicated that remote-controlled or automated explosives were likely used in the blast, which specifically targeted a civilian vehicle. The vehicle of a government official was also hit during the explosions, sustaining significant damage, though the official fortunately remained completely safe.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, with authorities launching an investigation to identify the perpetrators. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting search operations to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.
