The Recording Academy has announced five new categories for the 2027 Grammy Awards, along with updated rules that could reshape the Best New Artist prize. The changes, revealed Tuesday, are based on feedback from academy members and aim to reflect the evolving music industry.
New Categories for 2027
The 2027 ceremony will introduce awards for Best Asian Pop Music Performance, Best R&B Collaboration Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best Traditional Folk Album, and Best Latin Song. These additions recognize diverse genres and collaborations.
Best New Artist Rule Change
The academy has expanded the submission limit for Best New Artist from three to four times, allowing artists who previously exhausted their eligibility a renewed opportunity. Past winners include Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Olivia Dean.
Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, stated: "The changes advanced by our Recording Academy members speak to the breadth of today's music industry and the many genres, crafts and creators shaping it. We're excited to see these updates come to life in the year ahead as we celebrate the music people who are driving music forward."
The Grammy Awards, dubbed "music's biggest night," will take place in Los Angeles in February 2027.
