Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she hired a bodyguard following the backlash she received after sharing her views about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In an interview with British GQ, the The Housemaid actress discussed the reaction to her previous social media comments, saying she felt there was an intense level of anger surrounding the situation.
Seyfried Defends Right to Express Opinions
Seyfried said she believes she has the right to express her opinions while still approaching sensitive topics thoughtfully. The actress explained that the response left her concerned about her personal safety, leading her to have security support while travelling. She described the experience of seeing a bodyguard waiting for her at an airport as shocking.
Previous Comments on Charlie Kirk
Seyfried previously faced criticism after describing Kirk as “hateful” following his shooting death in September 2025. She later defended her comments, saying she could condemn the violence against him while also criticising views and statements she disagreed with. The Oscar-nominated actress said she wants her children to feel comfortable expressing their opinions as long as they are not harmful. Seyfried shares two children with husband Thomas Sadoski.
Clarification and No Apology
Following the online backlash, Seyfried clarified her position in an Instagram statement, saying that Kirk’s death was “disturbing and deplorable” while adding that people can hold complex views about public figures. She later said in a Who What Wear interview that she did not plan to apologise for her remarks, arguing that her comments were based on information and her own perspective.
