Emily Blunt has revealed that she personally crafted the alien vocalizations for her character in Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, deliberately choosing not to use artificial intelligence during the film's production. The actress shared insights into her creative process in a recent interview, explaining that Spielberg gave her the choice between utilizing AI-generated sounds or developing the character's unique vocalizations herself.
A Personal Touch to Alien Communication
Blunt opted for the latter approach and began experimenting with a variety of noises to establish the alien communication style featured in the film. “Steven and I discussed it, and he said, 'We could do it with AI, or you could do it,' and I was like, 'I feel confident I can make some weird noises,'” Blunt said. “And I was sending him voice memos of me clicking, humming, mixed with Morse code sounds. I just tried everything.”
In Disclosure Day, Blunt portrays a meteorologist whose character communicates through a distinctive series of sounds. To construct the language, the actress recorded voice memos containing clicks, hums, and Morse-code-inspired noises, which she shared with Spielberg during production.
Film Details and Box Office Success
The film combines elements of science fiction, thriller, and romance, centering on a group of individuals who uncover evidence of alien life while becoming entangled in a wider cover-up. Acclaimed composer John Williams provided the score for the project.
Disclosure Day has also attracted significant attention at the box office. According to reports, the film exceeded early expectations during its opening weekend, earning $44 million in North America and $49.9 million internationally. The strong opening performance has generated additional interest in the film's central mystery and Blunt's role within the story.
