Erin Moriarty Shares Graves' Disease Treatment with Producers

Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight on Amazon Prime Video's The Boys, revealed that she granted the show's producers complete access to her medical treatment after being diagnosed with Graves' disease. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress explained that she wanted the production team to fully understand the physical toll the autoimmune disorder took on her while filming the series' fifth and final season.

Transparency on Set

Moriarty said she chose to be open about her health from the start, allowing producers to monitor her treatment and recovery throughout production. "I gave the producers access to my treatment," Moriarty stated. "I wanted them to know exactly what was happening because I didn't want anyone thinking I wasn't showing up or wasn't trying." This transparency helped foster a supportive environment on set, she added.

Graves' Disease Diagnosis

The actress, who has portrayed Annie January since the series premiered in 2019, described how her symptoms initially left her exhausted and struggling with everyday tasks before doctors diagnosed her with Graves' disease, an autoimmune condition that causes the thyroid gland to become overactive. Moriarty publicly disclosed her diagnosis in June 2026, urging others not to ignore persistent health concerns and to seek medical advice if something feels wrong. She noted that beginning treatment significantly improved her condition and allowed her to continue working.

Support from The Boys Team

Moriarty praised the producers for their understanding, saying they accommodated her medical appointments and adjusted production schedules when necessary to ensure she could prioritize her health while completing the final season. "They were incredibly compassionate," she said, adding that she felt fortunate to work with a team that valued her wellbeing as much as the series itself.

A Shift in Perspective

The actress also reflected on how the diagnosis changed her outlook, saying she has learned to listen to her body rather than pushing through symptoms. She hopes sharing her experience will encourage others to seek help sooner if they suspect something is wrong. The Boys is currently preparing to conclude with its fifth and final season, bringing the hit superhero satire to an end. Moriarty has been a core cast member since the show's inception.
