Court documents have revealed that Liam Payne's nine-year-old son, Bear Grey Payne, is the sole beneficiary of the late singer's estate, valued at nearly $28 million. According to reports, the bulk of the estate will be placed in a trust until Bear turns 18, though a small portion may be accessible earlier.
Details of the Estate and Administration
Payne died in October 2024 at age 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. As he left no will, his former partner Cheryl and music lawyer Richard Bray were appointed administrators of the estate. Bear, born in March 2017, was the son of Payne and Cheryl, who began their relationship in 2016.
The couple announced their separation in July 2018 but stated that their son remained "our world" and requested privacy as they co-parented. Since Payne's death, Cheryl has kept Bear out of the public eye, expressing concern about future media coverage.
Cheryl's Statement on Media Impact
In an Instagram statement following Payne's death, Cheryl wrote: "What is troubling my spirit the most is that one day, Bear will have access to the abhorrent reports and media exploitation we have seen in the past two days. It is breaking my heart further that I cannot protect him from that in his future."
Legal Proceedings and Charges
The legal case surrounding Payne's death continues. In December 2024, five people were initially charged in connection with the incident. Three charges have since been dropped, while hotel employees Braian Paiz and Ezequiel Pereyra still face accusations of supplying drugs to the former One Direction star. The inheritance ensures Bear will benefit from the estate, with the trust managing assets until he reaches adulthood.
