Matt Bellamy, the frontman of the rock band Muse, has spoken publicly for the first time about his separation from his wife, model Elle Evans. In an interview with The i Paper, Bellamy described the breakup as the result of "really unexpected circumstances" that turned his life upside down and served as the inspiration for the band's upcoming album, The Wow! Signal.
Unexpected Separation
The 48-year-old musician revealed that the separation occurred in the summer of 2025, catching him completely off guard. "It's one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn't normally think it is. It was a set of really unexpected circumstances," Bellamy said. "It's the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritise looking after the kids and creating stability at home."
Album as Catharsis
The emotional turmoil became the driving force behind Muse's forthcoming album. Bellamy explained that writing the record was deeply therapeutic. "It would just pour out of me," he said. "It might have been the easiest album for me to make, because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me."
Relationship History
Bellamy and Evans married in August 2019 after getting engaged in December 2017. They share two children: daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2. Despite their split, the pair have remained on good terms and were recently photographed together celebrating George's birthday, demonstrating their commitment to co-parenting.
Before his relationship with Evans, Bellamy was engaged to actress Kate Hudson. The couple began dating in 2010, got engaged in April 2011, and welcomed their son, Bingham, later that year before ending their engagement in 2014. They have remained close friends and often spoke about their successful co-parenting relationship. Evans and Hudson have also maintained an amicable relationship, even appearing together at public events as part of their blended family.
Focus on Family and Music
Although Bellamy did not reveal the exact reason for the breakdown of his marriage, he emphasized that his priority has been providing stability for his children while channeling his experiences into his music. "It became a lifeline for me," he reiterated, highlighting how the creative process helped him navigate the difficult period.
