New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has addressed speculation linking him to Taylor Swift's upcoming wedding, confirming he has not been invited and has no direct contact with the pop star. Speaking at a parade-related briefing on Monday, Mamdani responded to questions about reports surrounding Swift's engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. The mayor clarified that there is no personal connection between him and Swift beyond their shared public appearances at New York Knicks games.
Background of the Speculation
The discussion comes after both Mamdani and Swift were seen separately attending recent Knicks games at Madison Square Garden. Mamdani attended Game 3 against the San Antonio Spurs, while Swift appeared at a later home fixture, with both sporting the team's signature orange and blue colours. Despite the coincidence, Mamdani downplayed any suggestion of a closer relationship.
Mamdani's Response
When asked about Swift's reported wedding plans, he confirmed he had not been invited and had not been in touch with her. "I wish them a lovely wedding. I'll listen to 'Only the Young' at home, on my own," he said, referring to Swift's politically themed song.
Wedding Speculation Continues
Reports circulating in US media have suggested Madison Square Garden could be considered as a possible venue for Swift's wedding, though neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed any details regarding the ceremony. Outlets including Page Six and TMZ have speculated on a potential early July date, but no official announcement has been made. Swift and Kelce announced their engagement earlier, sparking widespread media attention and ongoing speculation about the couple's wedding plans.
Mamdani's comments appear to put to rest any online speculation connecting him to the event, reinforcing that his only connection to Swift remains their shared support for the New York Knicks.
