The upcoming musical adaptation of Thelma & Louise has unveiled its full cast ahead of its world premiere at London's Young Vic Theatre this autumn. According to Variety, the production will be led by Amy Lennox as Thelma and Rachel Tucker as Louise, bringing the iconic friendship at the heart of the 1991 film to the stage.
Creative Team and Adaptation
The musical is based on the Oscar-winning screenplay by Callie Khouri, who has written the book for the new adaptation. The show features music and lyrics by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Neko Case and is directed by Trip Cullman. Choreography comes from Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, with scenic design by Christine Jones and Brett J. Banakis.
Newly Announced Cast
Variety reports that the newly announced cast includes performers from across the worlds of musical theatre, television and stage, joining Lennox and Tucker for the production's debut run at the Young Vic. The musical is scheduled to run from September 3, 2026, through October 24, 2026.
Reimagining a Classic Story
More than three decades after Ridley Scott's landmark road movie first premiered, the stage adaptation reimagines the story of two friends whose spontaneous weekend getaway spirals into a life-changing journey. The musical retains the themes of friendship, freedom and rebellion that helped make the original film a cultural phenomenon.
Insights from the Creators
Khouri previously expressed her excitement about revisiting the story for a new generation, describing the musical as a fresh interpretation that remains faithful to the spirit of the original film. Meanwhile, Case's score is expected to bring a distinctly Americana-inspired sound to the production.
Production Details
The world premiere forms part of the Young Vic's 2026-27 season and is one of the theatre's most high-profile productions of the year. The musical is being produced by the Young Vic alongside Sonia Friedman Productions, Blue Spruce Productions, Ley Line Entertainment and Callie Khouri, with Mandy Greenfield serving as a creative producer.
With a celebrated creative team, a newly announced ensemble cast and one of cinema's most beloved stories at its centre, Thelma & Louise is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated theatre events of the season.
