Noah Kahan has publicly condemned the repeated theft of the Alger Brook Road sign in Strafford, Vermont, a location he referenced in his song The View Between Villages. In a statement shared on Instagram Stories, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter expressed frustration and apologized to local residents for the disruptions caused by overzealous fans.
Road Sign Stolen Multiple Times
Kahan wrote that he had been informed the Alger Brook Road sign had been stolen multiple times, creating a burden for the town and its residents. He described the act as a total disrespect to the people living on that road and a headache for local officials to manage. The singer revealed he used to live on Alger Brook Road, which inspired the lyrics in his hit song.
Kahan Offers to Cover Costs
In his message, Kahan offered to pay for any replacement signs and asked Strafford residents or select board members to contact him or his mother to discuss solutions. He said: I will pay for any replacements and hear out any potential solutions you can think of. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this. The singer also regretted that mentioning the road in his music had encouraged some fans to visit the area in ways that disrupt local life.
Appeal for Privacy and Respect
Kahan concluded his statement by reminding fans of his deep protectiveness over his family's privacy and the sanctuary of his hometown. He urged fans not to disturb these places or people, emphasizing that the community has grown larger but his values remain unchanged. The View Between Villages, released on his 2022 album Stick Season, pays tribute to his rural Vermont upbringing and features real locations from his childhood. The album's success has turned parts of Vermont into destinations for fans eager to visit the places that inspired his music.
