FMU Syndicate Approves Major Upgrades, New Programs

The 17th Syndicate meeting of Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Khawaja Salman Rafique. The meeting approved several key decisions related to medical education, hospital facilities, and development projects.

Attendance and Proceedings

The meeting was attended by MPA Arif Gill, FMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Zafar Chaudhry, Director Budget and Accounts Hammad-ul-Rab, Medical Superintendents Dr. Faheem Yousaf, Dr. Zafar Chaudhary, and Dr. Asif Shehzad, along with officers from various departments and Syndicate members. The minutes of the 16th Syndicate meeting were approved during the session.

Approved Projects and Infrastructure Upgrades

The Syndicate approved the repair of medical and laboratory equipment for Allied Hospital-I and the procurement of 630 kVA and 400 kVA transformers for Allied Hospital-II. Additionally, funds were allocated for the construction of a waiting area in the new Medical Emergency and the establishment of a Paeds Emergency in front of the Medical Emergency.

New Academic Programs

The Syndicate also approved the launch of PhD programs, the HSK (Chinese Language) course, an Integrated Nutrition in Clinical Care course, and MS programs within the two-year and four-year Nursing Degree programs at FMU.

Minister’s Remarks and Hospital Visit

Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that a uniform policy is being introduced to resolve issues relating to all medical educational institutions across Punjab. Later, he visited Allied Hospital-II and inaugurated the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Department of Gastroenterology, Liver and Endoscopy, and the Cardiac Centre. During the visit, MS Dr. Zafar Chaudhry, AMS Dr. Ali Mirza, and DMS Dr. Imran briefed him about the facilities and ongoing developments.
