The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a weather alert warning of strong winds, thunderstorms, intermittent rainfall, hailstorms, and possible flash flooding in several parts of the province, including Shangla and other upper districts, from June 11 to June 13.

According to the advisory issued by the PDMA, widespread rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In view of the forecast, district administrations across the province have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation that may arise as a result of adverse weather conditions.
The authority has specifically warned that the districts of Shangla, Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad are likely to experience rainfall along with hailstorms during the forecast period. The weather system is expected to increase the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, while seasonal streams and nullahs may overflow, potentially triggering flash floods in vulnerable localities.

A PDMA spokesperson stated that strong winds and heavy rainfall could damage weak structures, electricity poles, solar panels, and other exposed installations. Agricultural activities may also be affected, with standing crops facing potential losses due to hailstorms and severe weather conditions. Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to safeguard their crops, livestock, and agricultural equipment.
Emergency Preparedness Measures
The disaster management authority has instructed all deputy commissioners and district administrations to ensure the availability of rescue teams, heavy machinery, and emergency response resources to deal with any untoward incident. Authorities have also been directed to maintain close coordination among relevant departments to ensure a swift response in case of emergencies.
Special instructions have been issued to keep major highways and roads open to traffic and to ensure uninterrupted transportation services. District administrations have been asked to identify alternative routes in advance and make contingency plans to manage possible road blockages caused by landslides, flooding, or debris.

The PDMA has urged residents of Shangla and other sensitive districts to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and severe weather. Citizens have also been advised to stay away from rivers, streams, flood channels, and other dangerous locations that may become hazardous during rainfall.
Officials have emphasized that timely precautionary measures, public awareness, and coordinated efforts among government departments are essential to minimizing the impact of severe weather and ensuring the safety of lives, property, and critical infrastructure throughout the province.
Stray Dog Attacks in Shangla
Meanwhile, the increasing population of stray and suspected rabid dogs in Shangla has emerged as a serious public safety concern, with more than 37 people, including three schoolchildren, reportedly injured in dog attacks across the district during the past week. Residents have called on the district administration to launch a large-scale operation to eliminate dangerous stray dogs and protect local communities.
