Thatta District Administration Launches Four-Day Blood Donation Campaign for Thalassemia Patients
The administration of Thatta district has announced the launch of a significant four-day blood donation campaign aimed at supporting Thalassemia patients throughout the region. This initiative is designed to address the urgent need for blood supplies that has been affecting hundreds of families in the area.
Campaign Details and Schedule
According to official sources from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the blood donation campaign is scheduled to commence next Monday and will run through Thursday. A dedicated blood donation camp will be established at Civil Hospital Thatta, where volunteers can donate blood to help those in need. The campaign has been organized to streamline the collection process and ensure efficient distribution to patients.
Addressing a Critical Health Issue
During a gathering at Darbar Hall Thatta, Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Baghat highlighted the severity of the situation. He revealed that approximately 600 patients in Thatta and Sujawal districts are currently battling Thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder that requires regular blood transfusions. The lack of available blood has forced many parents to travel to Karachi almost every week, creating significant logistical and financial challenges.
"Due to the unavailability of blood, the parents of these patients face multiple challenges, including taking their children to Karachi almost every week. Besides, the situation for the patients also becomes critical," Baghat stated. He emphasized that assisting these individuals is among his primary responsibilities as a public servant.
Supervision and Community Involvement
To ensure the success of the campaign, Deputy Commissioner Baghat has tasked the District Health Officer of Thatta with supervising the four-day blood camp. He also made a heartfelt appeal to local citizens, urging them to participate actively and donate blood for this noble cause. The involvement of the community is seen as crucial to meeting the blood requirements of the patients.
Support from Institutions and Civil Society
The meeting at Darbar Hall was attended by heads of various institutions and members of civil society, demonstrating broad-based support for the initiative. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of collective action in addressing public health issues and improving the quality of life for Thalassemia patients in the district.
This blood donation campaign represents a proactive step by the Thatta district administration to mitigate the hardships faced by patients and their families, fostering a healthier and more supportive community environment.
