Employees of the Suthra Punjab program staged a protest in Lahore on Tuesday, demanding regularization of their services, salary increases, and improved working conditions. The protesters gathered outside the Punjab Assembly, chanting slogans and carrying placards highlighting their grievances.
Protest Details
The demonstration, organized by the Suthra Punjab Employees Association, saw hundreds of workers from various districts participating. They blocked the Mall Road for several hours, causing traffic disruptions. The protesters demanded that the Punjab government immediately regularize their services, which they claim have been on a contract basis for years.
Key Demands
- Regularization of all contract employees
- Increase in salaries to match inflation
- Provision of health insurance and other benefits
- Better working conditions and safety measures
Speaking to the media, association leaders stated that despite repeated assurances, the government has failed to address their concerns. They warned of an intensified protest if their demands are not met within a week.
The protest comes amid growing unrest among contract employees across Punjab, who feel marginalized and underpaid. Similar protests have been reported in other cities, including Rawalpindi and Faisalabad.
