A woman was killed and another seriously injured after being swept away by a flash flood triggered by torrential monsoon rains in the Gamyar Machkandi Khwar area of Puran tehsil on Thursday, according to Rescue 1122 officials.
Rescue Operation Launched
Heavy rainfall caused a sudden surge in local streams and seasonal waterways, trapping the two women in fast-moving floodwaters. Rescue teams were dispatched immediately after receiving the emergency call and launched a search and rescue operation with the assistance of local residents.
The deceased was identified as Sakina Bibi, wife of Sajid, who was swept away by the strong current. The second victim, Asma, daughter of Sajid, was pulled from the floodwaters in critical condition. Rescue personnel administered first aid at the scene before shifting her to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Body Recovered
After an extensive search conducted under difficult conditions, rescuers recovered Sakina Bibi’s body from the flood channel and handed it over to her family. Rescue 1122 urged the public to stay away from streams, seasonal waterways and flood channels during the ongoing monsoon season, warning that flash floods can develop rapidly without prior warning.
Community Response
The emergency service also appealed to citizens to report emergencies promptly to facilitate swift rescue operations. Local residents commended the timely response of Rescue 1122 personnel, saying the coordinated efforts of emergency responders and volunteers enabled an effective rescue operation despite challenging conditions.
