Secretary Health Shahid Ullah Khan, Vice Chancellor KMU Dr Zia-ul-Haq, and senior officials of the Health Department and Khyber Medical University attended the inauguration ceremony.
Government Commitment to Women's Healthcare
Addressing the gathering, Khaliq-ur-Rehman said that the provincial government is committed to improving women’s healthcare by expanding access to quality diagnostic and treatment facilities across the province. He said the establishment of the Mammography Centre reflects the government’s continued efforts to promote preventive healthcare and ensure the availability of modern medical services for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Importance of Early Detection
The minister said that mammography is one of the most effective tools for the early detection of changes in breast tissue that could lead to breast cancer. Early diagnosis not only improves treatment outcomes but also helps prevent serious complications, reduces the financial burden on patients and their families, and enables women to recover more quickly and resume healthy and productive lives.
Facility Features and Recommendations
Khaliq-ur-Rehman said that the newly established Mammography Centre is equipped to provide safe, reliable, and high-quality screening services through trained healthcare professionals using modern diagnostic equipment. He urged women aged 40 years and above to undergo regular mammography screening and advised younger women, particularly those with a family history of breast cancer, to consult their physicians regarding timely screening.
Awareness and Future Plans
The minister emphasized that creating awareness about breast cancer and encouraging timely screening are essential for reducing disease-related mortality and improving the overall health of women. He reiterated that the Health Department will continue to strengthen specialized healthcare services and introduce modern medical facilities to ensure quality healthcare for all. He appreciated the efforts of Khyber Medical University, the Health Department, and all those involved in establishing the Mammography Centre, expressing confidence that the facility will play a significant role in promoting early diagnosis, preventive healthcare, and improved health outcomes for women throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
