Patient Dies After Alleged Torture at Islamabad Mental Health Centre
ISLAMABAD: A young patient allegedly died after being subjected to torture at a private mental health centre in Islamabad, prompting police to receive a complaint from the victim's family, authorities said. According to the victim's father, an application has been submitted at Shahzad Town Police Station seeking registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the management of the mental health facility.
In his complaint, the father alleged that staff members fled the centre following the incident and claimed that visible torture marks were found on his son's body. He stated that his son had been admitted to the mental health centre in June but the administration did not allow family members to meet him for an entire month.
Details of the Incident
The father further alleged that on July 9, he received a call informing him that his son had contracted dengue fever. However, upon reaching the facility, he found that his son had already died. The complaint also claimed that the owner of the mental health centre, identified as Dr. Hamza, has gone missing since the incident.
Police are expected to investigate the allegations after reviewing the complaint and initiating legal proceedings in accordance with the law. No official statement has yet been issued by the management of the mental health centre regarding the allegations.
