Mass Shooting at Coney Island on Independence Day
At least eight people, including four children, were shot late on the Fourth of July in Brooklyn's Coney Island, New York, according to ABC News, citing the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The incident occurred at approximately 10:37 p.m. on the 2900 block of West 31st Street, the NYPD said in a statement.
Victims and Injuries
The victims, who were not publicly identified, included a 37-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, a 14-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old boy, ABC News reported. All victims were transported by emergency medical services to local hospitals. Seven individuals were listed in stable condition, while the 21-year-old woman is in critical condition, the NYPD stated.
Police Response and Investigation
Police recovered a firearm at the scene, but no arrests have been made as of Sunday. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing for any witnesses or information from the public. The shooting marred what should have been a festive evening celebrating Independence Day in the popular beachfront area.
