Iran Says Nuclear Cooperation Unchanged After US Talks in Switzerland
Iran Nuclear Cooperation Unchanged After US Talks

Iran announced on Monday that its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will proceed under the current framework, adhering to decisions by parliament and the Supreme National Security Council. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that Tehran “had not made any new commitments to any party” regarding collaboration with the UN nuclear watchdog, as reported by state broadcaster IRIB.

No Nuclear Negotiations in Switzerland Talks

Baghaei stated that informed sources from the 18-hour discussions with the United States in Switzerland on Sunday confirmed that no negotiations were conducted over Iran’s nuclear file, and no new commitments were undertaken. He reiterated that any future nuclear negotiations under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding would be contingent on the implementation of Article 13 of the agreement. While the exact provisions of Article 13 remain undisclosed, it is understood to be a key precondition for launching formal talks on nuclear-related issues.

Focus on Islamabad Memorandum and Asset Release

Earlier, Baghaei noted that the Switzerland talks centered on unresolved provisions of the Islamabad memorandum, particularly ending the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and the release of Iran’s frozen assets. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed early Monday that the negotiations with the US, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, achieved “significant progress” toward ending the war in Lebanon and easing pressure on Iran's economy.

Baghaei’s remarks underscore Iran’s stance that its nuclear cooperation remains unchanged, despite ongoing diplomatic engagements. The discussions in Switzerland did not alter Iran’s position on the nuclear issue, which remains tied to the broader framework of the Islamabad memorandum.
