Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi met his Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyor Saidov, in Tashkent on Monday for talks on boosting cooperation between the two countries. They also reviewed the outcomes of a road map agreed during Jordanian King Abdullah II’s visit to Uzbekistan and talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in August.
Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding
Safadi and Saidov discussed the details of about 20 agreements and memorandums of understanding in the fields of trade, agriculture, water, municipalities, pharmaceuticals, energy, health, tourism, culture, investment and defense. These will likely be signed during Mirziyoyev’s visit to Jordan later in the year, the Jordan News Agency reported.
Visa Exemption and New Flights
The two countries have already signed a visa exemption agreement to boost trade, tourism and cultural exchanges. Last month, airline Royal Jordanian launched its first flights between Amman and Tashkent.
Regional Developments
Safadi and Saidov also discussed the recent developments in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions, following the US-Iran agreement, which led to a suspension of the conflict in the region. They also stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the Gaza Strip and the need to achieve a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution between Palestinians and Israelis.
Visit to Center of Islamic Civilization
Safadi visited the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, which opened in March and is the country’s largest cultural, scientific and educational complex.
