The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court has taken up a constitutional petition demanding a judicial inquiry into the death of nine-year-old Hania Ahmad, a Pakistani-origin Australian girl who was allegedly killed in heavy firing by Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel in Chakwal. Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan admitted the petition for hearing and issued notices to the concerned authorities.
Petition Details
Filed by Advocate Asif Mahmood Mian on behalf of Muhammad Nadeem, the petition names the Federation of Pakistan and several police officials as respondents. It requests that the investigation be conducted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) instead of provincial agencies, citing concerns over impartiality.
Court Directives
The court ordered the Inspector General of Punjab Police, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, District Police Officer Chakwal, and the Home Department to submit detailed replies by Friday, June 19. The petition argues that the incident constitutes a grave violation of citizens' fundamental rights, including the right to life and security.
The tragic incident occurred when CCD personnel opened fire, resulting in the death of the young girl. The petition seeks a transparent and independent probe to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
