Switzerland Eyes Immediate Iran-US Technical Talks

Switzerland announced Monday that following a first round of talks between Iran and the United States at the Burgenstock resort, conditions are now in place for technical discussions to resume immediately. The talks, which began Sunday, are part of a two-month negotiating period established under a preliminary deal reached last week.

Roadmap Agreed for Final Deal Within 60 Days

Mediators Pakistan and Qatar confirmed that negotiators reached agreement early Monday on a “roadmap toward reaching a final deal within 60 days.” The roadmap includes establishing a contact channel to keep the vital Strait of Hormuz open and to end fighting in Lebanon. The talks were led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Switzerland’s Role as Facilitator

“The Swiss facilitator welcomes the constructive progress made during the intensive diplomatic talks that continued throughout the night of 21-22 June at the Burgenstock between the mediators, Iran and the United States,” the Swiss foreign ministry said in a statement. Technical talks have been scheduled to continue for the rest of the week at the resort.
