Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the US-Iran technical-level talks, conducted under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), present a major opportunity for advancing global peace. He made these remarks while addressing attendees in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, ahead of the scheduled technical-level negotiations between the United States and Iran.
PM expresses hope for positive outcomes
Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism that the summit would yield constructive and tangible results, contributing to peace and progress worldwide. He thanked the United States, Iran, and Qatar for their continued efforts in sustaining the negotiation process. The Prime Minister specifically lauded the role and perseverance of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, in facilitating the talks.
US Vice President JD Vance praises Pakistan's role
On the occasion, US Vice President JD Vance remarked that the US envisions a future where all parties can collaborate to promote peace and prosperity. He confirmed that President Trump has empowered the US delegation to address a range of issues, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Vance expressed high appreciation for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, stating, "We would not have been here without his statesmanship." He added that he has spoken to no one more frequently than the Field Marshal over the past three months.

The technical-level discussions are being held under the Islamabad MoU, a framework that has been instrumental in bringing the US and Iran to the negotiating table. The talks aim to resolve key disputes, with the Strait of Hormuz being a critical point of contention.
