Mayor Sukkur and Sindh government spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh on Sunday paid glowing tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on her birthday, calling her a great national leader who introduced Pakistan to the modern, progressive and digital age and charted new paths for democracy, public service and development.
Legacy of Local Government Empowerment
In his message, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh said the late leader laid the foundation for strengthening local government institutions and devolving power to the grassroots level, the benefits of which the people of Pakistan and especially Sindh continue to reap today. He added that local government institutions across Sindh, including Sukkur, were following Shaheed Mohtarma’s vision of public service, development and empowered local governments.
Development Initiatives Under Benazir Bhutto
He said that during her tenure, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto gave the country’s progress a new direction through the establishment of power plants, hospitals and universities and paved the way for equal opportunities in employment and higher education for the youth. Her vision, he said, was not limited to politics alone; she was an advocate of economic self-reliance, public welfare, and an empowered future for women and youth.
Role in Democratic Unity
He further stated that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto played a historic role in uniting the federating units, promoting democratic values, and strengthening the culture of tolerance and national unity. “Her political struggle remains a beacon for the people of Pakistan,” he said.

Arsalan added that in the form of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the country continues to benefit from Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s global vision, foresight and people-friendly leadership, which is actively working to take Pakistan toward progress, prosperity and democratic stability.
Reaffirming his party’s commitment, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh said PPP workers will continue to advance the mission, ideology and journey of public service of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto with full strength and will persist in their struggle for public welfare and development.
