Additional SHO critically injured in South Waziristan attack

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: An Additional Station House Officer (SHO), Mirajan Shah, sustained serious injuries on Sunday when unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Madina Mor area of South Waziristan, as confirmed by District Police Officer (DPO) Tahir Shah Wazir.

Incident Details

According to South Waziristan DPO Wazir, the injured officer was immediately rushed to a hospital in critical condition. SHO Kamran Khan arrived at the scene and actively participated in the rescue operation, personally assisting in transferring the wounded officer to the medical facility.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify the perpetrators. Security in the area has been further tightened to prevent any further incidents.

Recent Attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

This attack follows a recent surge in terrorist activities in the province. On Friday, a police constable was martyred and two police personnel were injured when terrorists targeted a police vehicle with a rocket attack in Kangar Jan Bahadur, Bannu.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been grappling with terrorism since the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan. Terrorists frequently cross the border to target police convoys and vehicles, resulting in the deaths of numerous officials and personnel.

Previous Incidents

  • On April 20, a police constable was martyred in the Akhundan forest civil camp area near the Bannu border during a Counter Terrorism Department intelligence-based operation.
  • On April 6, two police personnel and a security guard were martyred in separate firing incidents in Bannu. The first attack occurred outside a National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office in the Baka Khel area, where gunmen opened fire on security staff, killing Constable Rafiullah and security guard Gul Shah Noor. In a separate incident near the Miryan Kinger police station, Constable Sher Muhammad was shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

Terrorism Statistics

The province has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, accounting for the highest number of incidents in the country. Out of a total of 5,397 reported incidents last year, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 3,811, followed by Balochistan with 1,557 incidents. Only 29 incidents were reported from the rest of the country. A total of 2,597 terrorists were killed during the year.
