Israeli strike on south Lebanon kills 4 despite ceasefire

Lebanese state media reported on Monday that an Israeli drone strike on a car in southern Lebanon killed four people, including three women, despite a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Details of the attack

Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA) said the victims included a school principal, her mother, a foreign female domestic worker, and a male Syrian worker. The strike occurred in Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, a village in southern Lebanon, as the group was returning from inspecting their family home.

According to NNA, an Israeli drone targeted the car they were traveling in, resulting in the deaths of all four occupants. The attack took place on July 6, 2026, amid ongoing tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Ceasefire violations

The incident marks a significant violation of the ceasefire agreement brokered between Israel and Hezbollah, which had been in effect since late 2024. The fragile truce has been repeatedly tested by sporadic incidents, but this strike represents one of the deadliest breaches in recent months.

Local sources confirmed that the school principal was a prominent figure in the community, and her death has sparked outrage among residents. The foreign domestic worker's nationality has not yet been disclosed.

Regional context

The strike comes amid heightened tensions across the region, with ongoing conflicts in Gaza and southern Lebanon. Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group backed by Iran, has been engaged in cross-border exchanges with Israel since October 2023, though the scale of attacks has diminished since the ceasefire.

The NNA report did not specify whether Hezbollah had retaliated for the strike, but analysts warn that such incidents could escalate into broader hostilities.
