A man allegedly subjected his estranged wife to severe torture at her parents' house in a suburban area of Sahiwal under the pretext of reconciliation, police said on Sunday.
Incident Location and Details
According to police, the incident took place in Chak No 176/10-R, where the accused, Muhammad Akram, along with his brothers, visited the residence of his in-laws to reconcile with his wife, Rabia. Police said that during the meeting, a dispute broke out between the couple, after which the accused allegedly attacked his wife with batons. His brothers were also allegedly involved in the assault and recorded the incident on video.
Aftermath and Police Response
Following the attack, the accused and his accomplices fled the scene. The victim was shifted to a hospital in critical condition by her family. Police said the incident came to light after the video went viral on social media, prompting District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Abid to take notice and order the immediate arrest of the suspects.
The DPO said violence against women would not be tolerated and assured that the accused would be dealt with strictly, adding that the victim would be provided justice.
