Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf on Wednesday called for a reassessment of traditional warfighting concepts to keep pace with the evolving nature of modern conflicts, underscoring the importance of technological advancement and strategic adaptability to address emerging maritime security challenges.
Address to Pakistan Navy Staff Course
The naval chief said this during an address to the participants of the 55th Pakistan Navy Staff Course during his visit to the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) noted. Emphasising the new trends in warfare, the naval chief acknowledged the importance of a technologically proficient and intellectually capable military workforce.
Evolving Character of Modern Conflicts
Highlighting the 'evolving character' of modern conflicts and emerging maritime security challenges, he stressed the importance of 'adaptive strategies' to effectively address both conventional and non-conventional threats. Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Ashraf also reaffirmed Pakistan Navy’s commitment to innovation and indigenisation.
Unity and Strategic Understanding
He also vetted unity among the factions of the armed services. He urged the course participants to strengthen their strategic understanding and operational foresight to meet future security challenges. “The Indian Ocean region remains fluid and contested,” the maritime chief underscored, stressing the shifting geopolitical dynamics and power rivalries impacting the regional security environment.

In his concluding remarks, Admiral Ashraf congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the PN staff course and advised them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, analytical rigour, and innovation in their future assignments.
