The 12th meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group (JWG) to Counter International Terrorism was held in Islamabad on Tuesday, with both sides discussing the regional terrorist threat, particularly terrorism emanating from Afghanistan and the risk it poses to neighboring states and broader regional security.
High-Level Delegations Lead Discussions
Additional Secretary (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Ambassador Muhammad Khalid Khan Jamali led the Pakistani delegation, while Russian Federation Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmitry Lyubinsky headed the Russian side. The dialogue was confirmed by the Foreign Office Spokesperson in a statement.
Focus on Afghan Terror Threat
The discussions centered on the security challenges arising from Afghanistan, including the potential spillover of terrorist activities into neighboring countries. Both sides underscored the need for coordinated efforts to address these threats and ensure regional stability.
The meeting highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing to mitigate risks posed by terrorist groups operating in the region.
